Our Hard Red Winter Wheat is the best of our wheat berry varieties for sprouting into wheatgrass, however, these berries are also perfect for homemade flour.

Hard Red Winter Wheat Berries are a beautiful golden red color and provide a great nutty flavor. Flour made from these berries is incredibly versatile; it’s hearty enough for a yeast bread, yet mild enough for muffins and other baked goods and the berries are perfect in a salad as well. Our Hard Red Winter Wheat berries are triple cleaned to put the highest quality products on your table.

How to Cook Wheat Berries

Bring at least 3 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add 1 cup rinsed wheat berries, and reduce the heat. Simmer until tender, checking periodically for 25 mins. See more ways to cook, and how to grind wheat berries.

The 2021 crop year has definitely come with its challenges, mainly the most severe drought since 1977. Along with lower yields, our Hard Red Winter Wheat Berries were harvested at a slightly smaller size, though we are thankful to continue to provide a quality product to our customers.

Palouse Brand is a 5th generation, family-owned and vertically integrated farm that grows, cleans, processes, packages and ships premium legumes and grains directly to consumers. We grow our own products in Eastern Washington and provide information like field location, crop photos and harvest dates. Starts in the field

Mike has been with the farm since 2004. Born and raised in Pullman, he has wanted to be a farmer ever since he can remember. He and his wife, Alyssa are raising two young boys who are just as excited about farming as their dad. He loves having his boys come help him in the field and is teaching them all the ins and outs of the equipment.

There is never a dull moment working on the farm, when it’s not harvest season, Mike enjoys seeding in the spring and the urgency of fall work. He loves the challenges and different tasks that every day brings and will never turn down an opportunity to drive a tractor. He feels that watching and helping the crops grow is the most rewarding part of his job.

Packaged for you

Magen has been working to package and ship Palouse Brand products with us since early 2020, working through the surge of orders during the COVID-19 Pandemic. In her free time she enjoys working on cars and has won the Young Timers award at the Palouse Days Car Show, which Palouse Brand sponsors each year, in Palouse, WA.

Magen is excited about all the new and different skills she has learned from driving forklifts to running different types of computer programs. Her favorite part of her job is being able to produce quality products like our flours. As our main flour miller, she is usually found covered in flour.
